Mattress Protector Guide

Having invested in a top mattress for your bedroom it makes sense to take precautions to protect it and prolong the life of the mattress. One of the ways you can do this is by purchasing a mattress protector.

These can serve as a layer of protection on top of the mattress in case of spillages, but some mattress protectors can also provide protection from irritants like bed bugs, dead skin, mold and dust mites, and also against allergens. Although a vacuum cleaner can come in useful to remove dirt from a mattress, it is very difficult to get any stains out of mattresses.

Although you might think that you won't spill liquids on the mattress, this is not the only way it can become stained. Natural perspiration that is produced during the night can easily pass through bed sheets, causing a yellowish tidemark. A quilted mattress protector is commonly bought to solve this problem. However, these simple protectors offer little protection from dust mites and very little from liquids. A waterproof and allergen mattress protector does a far better job of protecting your mattress.

Obviously waterproof mattress protectors can keep the mattress clean and are ideal for a cotbed, but also for adults too. An anti allergy mattress protector is recommended for young children to help avoid asthma, skin conditions and allergic reactions that result from the waste products of dust mites. A waterproof mattress protector also does a good job of reducing the amount of mold that can grow on your mattress.

Mattress protectors are available in all common mattress sizes; super king size, king size, queen size, double and single size, and of course the cot bed mattress protector size so that they can be used for infants. The Hippychick mattress protector is just one brand that offers a whole range of sizes. However, before you buy any size mattress protector, make you sure you buy a durable protector pad that is going to fully protect your mattress. Some of the cotton mattress protector sets are nothing more than a thin sheet which does little to protect the mattress from liquids and allergens.

Some of the cheap plastic mattress protectors may not provide the protection your mattress needs, so it is a good idea to invest in a high-quality mattress protector pad so your mattress can remain fresh and clean as long as possible.
