A Review of the Intex Air Mattress Range

Intex air mattresses are made by Intex Recreation, an international company involved in the manufacture and sale of outdoor camping equipment, swimming pools, inflatable’s, and saltwater pool systems. They have been in business for more than 40 years providing products to consumers all over the world. The company has operations in China, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and the United States. The company boasts that its products are of such high quality that customers are unlikely to ever have to contact the customer service department. That's a pretty big claim, indeed.

As far as Intex air mattresses are concerned, the company divides them into two categories: camping use and home use. For many consumers there is no such designation, but we'll talk about both here since Intex categorizes their mattresses that way. For purposes of clarification, the camping mattress is designed to favor durability and toughness over extreme comfort, while the home mattress concentrates more on comfort than durability.

Intex Camping Air Mattresses

Intex' entry-level camping mattress is known as the camping mat. These are your standard laminated vinyl mattresses that you would blow up by mouth. They are traditionally single-chamber mattresses that are only a couple of inches thick and lie directly on the ground. Intex adds a fabric top to make sleeping a little bit more comfortable. They also say that these mattresses can be taken out on the lake or used in the pool as a floating device. The nice thing about these mattresses is that they fold up easily for storage and transportation. On the downside, they most likely will need to be re-inflated before each use.

The next step up for Intex is their air bed mattresses, of which there are four models to choose from. The most basic model is multi-baffled with a built-in foot pump and a two-way valve for use with an external electric pump. It has a soft cover to make for more comfortable sleep as opposed to lying directly on vinyl. As you move up through the series Intex adds extra features like a hand held electric pump, a built-in electric pump, a pillow top cover, and a laminated construction which is allegedly 120 times more puncture resistant than standard PVC.

Intex Home Air Mattresses

Intex offers 12 different models of home air mattresses with the base model picking up right where the camping mattresses leave off. The first two models are designed to lie flat on the floor rather than being raised air mattresses. They have a flocked top, are waterproof, and one comes with a built-in electric pump. From there the various models become raised air mattresses with added features as you go up the line.

Intex offers a two-in-one model that can be used as a single queen-size unit lying flat on the floor, or split in half and stacked for use as a single-sized raised mattress. They're raised mattresses begin at 17.5 inches of elevation and go all the way up to 22 inches. In fact, a couple of their 22-inch raised mattresses are nearly as large as a full-sized conventional bed. One of them even includes built-in memory foam for added comfort and support.

One of the more unique air mattresses sold by Intex is their Comfort Frame model. It actually has two mattresses that, used in their normal state, provide 22 inches of elevation and a frame that allows for the use of standard bed sheets. If you would prefer the other combination, the middle mattress pulls out to create a separate bed to lie on the floor. The addition of the extra combinations makes this air mattress one of the most versatile on the market.

Intex may not be as old a company as some of its competitors, but they pride themselves on producing high quality products their customers love. You can visit them on the web and read mattress reviews to see just what they have to offer and then shop online or at your local retail camping outlet.
