Caring for Your Waterbed Mattress

The decision to buy a waterbed and enjoy all of the benefits is a major one. The waterbed mattress requires a little more maintenance and care than a traditional mattress, but it is well worth the extra time. The first thing that you should keep an eye on is the water level in the mattress. Water gets displaced when weight is applied to the mattress. Consider what the perfect level is for your mattress when someone is lying on it.

You will also have to maintain a good temperature in the waterbed. Unlike a traditional mattress, the temperature is an important feature of the waterbed mattress. Not having enough heat in a waterbed mattress can lower your body temperature while sleeping and cause discomfort.

The water in the mattress must be treated with a conditioner to avoid bacteria buildup. This should be done at least every six months. Consult the manufacturer of your waterbed mattress to find the proper maintenance for the water in the mattress.

Have a repair plan in mind when you have a waterbed mattress. A leak in the mattress must be repaired immediately to prevent water damage in your bedroom. It is better to repair the leak than try to drain out all of the water.
