Bed Frames Guide
Choosing the right bed for your home comes down to selecting the right frame. There are a variety of types of frames available to choose from. Metal frames, wood, platform beds, adjustable, bunk beds and loft beds are the most common.
Metal Bed Frames
Metal bed frames offer beauty and durability. Metal bed frames can be constructed with a simple design in the footboard and headboard or they can have very intricate designs. The choice depends on the décor of the room.
A metal bed frame may be constructed with wheels attached or not. The construction of the bed is very simple with bolts holding the frame together to accommodate the size of the mattress. The footboard and headboard is secured to the frame with metal bolts as well.
Wood Bed Frames
A wood bed frame brings a rustic feel to your bedroom or it can be darkly elegant. The bed frame can have legs that lift the bed up off the floor. Some wood bed frames are constructed with wood slats across the bottom to support the mattress eliminating the need for a box spring. The slats hold the mattress in place. Other wood bed frames are constructed in the same way that metal bed frames are built and are held together with bolts that accommodate the size of the mattress and box spring.
Platform Bed Frames
Platform beds offer a sleek and modern design to the bedroom. They are a sturdily constructed bed that can offer extra storage in the form of drawers built into the platform. The beds design does not include a box spring, but uses slats to hold the mattress firmly in place. They are low to the floor and are a stunning design choice for the contemporary bedroom.
Adjustable Bed Frames
There was a time when an adjustable bed was only available in the hospital or nursing home. Recently, these beds have taken off as a comfortable choice for the home. They are constructed at the base with metal which supports the box spring and mattress. The bed can be adjusted to allow the patient to sit up in the hospital or at home it is a perfect bed to enjoy a good book.
Bunk Bed Frames
Bunk beds can be built with a metal frame or wood. They are typically used to save space in a children’s room. The bottom bunk can be a twin size or some use a full size bed for the bottom bunk. The beds are joined together with one bed directly over the other. A ladder is usually attached to the bunk bed to allow access to the top bunk. Ladders are sometimes a part of the frame as well. These are an incredible space saver when two children must share one bedroom.
Loft Bed Frames
These are an innovative design that saves space in a room by taking advantage of the vertical space. The bed is built up toward the ceiling, leaving the space beneath the bed available for a sitting area or a desk for a student. These beds can be used by children and adults to save space in a small bedroom. A ladder is attached to the side of the bed to allow access or the ladder may be a part of the bed frame. A mattress is used without a box spring.
All of these beds have different uses and offer various styles to the bedroom décor. The room design is a primary concern when deciding on a bed for the bedroom. Most people have a design in mind when choosing the bed. This piece of furniture dominates the room and becomes the focal point.
